What Am I Hoping To Achieve on Medium?
Good Question.
I just signed up for a Medium account and began to follow those who looked interesting. But what am I hoping to achieve here exactly? Nothing short of literary success. Wait, just hear me out…
I’m a writer, a fiction author deep down inside. I’ve wanted this for too many years but never actually put the metaphorical or literal pen to paper as I’ve suffered from a deep depression for almost a decade. I guess when your house burns down and you refuse to deal with it, that will happen.
The past year, I’ve been feeling better and getting back to myself. Before the depression, I wanted to write stories. Stories I loved and thought others might like to read, too. Lately, the feeling to write and explore new worlds has been overwhelming.
I want to write stories about the human experience. Love, hate, hope, and fear among other unsavory feelings and concepts. Thrillers, Mysteries, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Romance. Maybe even some Comedy.
Currently, I am working on a couple short stories that will help me shake the dust off my bones. Warm me up a little. Then, I want to work on my first novel so I can say I’m a real author — to say that I did it.
Do I expect anything to come from these? No, not really but still hoping for a miraculous fairy tale ending where I run off into the sunset with a book deal, a movie on the horizon, the envy of all my haters and never needing to “work” again. Yes, a girl can dream and dream she will.
What am I working on right now?
Two things — short stories that I will share here on Medium:
AI Love (Definitely a working title) — You’ll meet IRIS, an AI assistant who falls in love with her creator.
Heal Me (Note to self: work on your title game) — A writer gets her heart broken and she begins to heal through writing, while unpacking the trauma of her life while typing away at her MacBook.
Yes, not very original and quite vague on purpose. Can’t release all the good ideas out in the universe before I get to finish writing about them.
If these stories spark your interest, hit the follow button and come along for the writing journey — I hope to post short blog posts like this one, along with completed works and some insight into the world of a rookie author.
